SAR 8.5B deals signed with private sector for Jubail-Buraydah IWTP

Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture and Chairman of Saudi Water Partnership Co. (SWPC), signed today, March 4, several agreements for the construction of the Jubail-Buraydah independent water transmission pipeline (IWTP) project with a consortium of Aljomaih Energy and Water Co. (JENWA), Nesma Co. Ltd., and Buhur for Investment Co.

The project is valued at SAR 8.5 billion, SWPC said in a statement today, March 4.

SWPC’s CEO Khalid AlQureshi said the project’s commercial operation will start in the second quarter of 2029, with a concession agreement term of 35 years from the commencement of commercial operation.

The project, according to the top executive, was awarded through a competitive tender under the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model. A total of 32 companies, including 14 Saudi firms, participated in the bidding process.

This IWTP is seen to boost the Kingdom’s water security, ensuring a stable and sustainable supply of drinking water in Qassim and Eastern Province. The pipeline will have a transmission capacity of 650,000 cubic meters per day and will span 587 kilometers in length.

It also boasts a reverse flow capability from Al-Shamasiyah Governorate, passing through Al-Qulayib to Jubail at full capacity.

Additionally, to ensure a reliable and efficient water supply, the project will feature six strategic storage tanks in Al-Shamasiyah and three in Jubail, with a total storage capacity of 1.63 million cubic meters.
