The second batch of the roads program include the project to implement the bridge at the intersection of King Salman Road with Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Road. This includes the implementation of a bridge from King Salman Road in the east to Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Road in the north, with the aim of enhancing traffic flow and efficiency.
This is besides carrying out the first batch of the engineering modifications project for crowded locations, under which several locations that witness traffic congestion during peak times will be stepped up.
The Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Road development project (northern part), extending for more than six kilometers (km) in length, is also on the list. It includes the development of two main intersections, three bridges, and a tunnel.
This is bound to raise the road’s accommodating capacity to 200,000 vehicles per day.
Another project is the Al-Thomama Road Axis Development (middle section), which stretches 10 km long. It includes the development of five main intersections, together with 11 bridges and five tunnels. The project will help boost the road's daily accommodating capacity to 200,000 vehicles.
The second batch also includes the nine-km Imam Abdullah bin Saud Road development project. The scope of work covers the development of four main intersections, besides constructing three bridges and two tunnels, which will in turn expand the road's capacity to 200,000 vehicles per day.
In addition, under the second batch, the nine-km Dirab Road development project will be carried out. It includes executing two main intersections and nine bridges, allowing for accommodating 340,000 vehicles per day.
The second batch will also see the execution of the Imam Muslim Road development project, which extends 12 km in length. The scope of work entails developing four main intersections and four bridges, therefore enhancing the road's capacity to accommodate 200,000 vehicles per day. This project will represent the future extension of Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Road Axis to the south.
This is alongside undertaking the project to develop the road network surrounding the King Abdullah Financial Center, which spans 20 km in length. It includes the development of three main intersections.
The implementation of projects under the second batch of the program is expected to take three years as soon as work on-site kicks off, RCRC said.
According to data available with Argaam, Riyadh’s Main & Ring Road Axes Development Program seeks to reinforce the capital city’s transport system, activate intercity connection, and position it as a key hub in the provision of sustainable transportation and logistics services in the Middle East.
It also targets helping Riyadh assume the leading position it deserves as one of the world’s top cities, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 goals.
In August 2024, RCRC launched work on the projects under the program’s first batch, which included four projects at a total cost of SAR 13 billion. The start of implementation of the subsequent phases of the program will be announced over the coming period.
