TikTok app
US President Donald Trump said yesterday, Jan. 21, he is open to Elon Musk buying social media app TikTok, as part of a joint venture with the US government.
These statements came amid uncertainty about the fate of TikTok, which is owned by China’s, ByteDance, as the US said it will ban the app unless it is sold to an American entity.
Earlier this week, Trump on Monday signed an executive order seeking to delay by 75 days the enforcement of the law that was enacted in the US as TikTok stopped working for US users late on Jan. 18.
Trump said, "I would be, if he wanted to buy it," Trump told reporters on Tuesday when asked if he was open to Musk buying the platform.
"I have met with owners of TikTok, the big owners," Trump added. "So, what I am thinking about saying to somebody is 'buy it and give half to the United States of America,” he added.
