ACWA Power Co. signed, on March 27, a water purchase agreement worth SAR 3 billion ($800 million) with Senegal’s Ministry of Water and Sanitation and the National Water Co. (SONES), to establish a seawater desalination plant in Dakar, Senegal.

The contract, which spans 32 years, will cover the design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of a seawater desalination plant in Grand Côte, Senegal, along with the associated infrastructure design and construction, the company said in a statement to Tadawul.

The plant's production capacity is set at 400,000 cubic meters per day using reverse osmosis seawater desalination technology. This capacity is divided into two phases, each with a production capacity of 200,000 cubic meters per day.

The financial impact is expected to appear after the operation of the first phase by Q1 2028.

There are no related parties involved in the agreement, the statement added.
