Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
The Council of Royal Reserves, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, approved the strategic goals of the Royal Reserves for 2030.
These goals support the comprehensive strategies of Royal Reserves and focus on the protection of wildlife and plantation.
The approved goals contribute to supporting the Kingdom’s efforts for sustainability and environmental protection by contributing to the Saudi Green Initiative that has committed to protecting 30% of the Kingdom’s terrestrial and marine area by 2030. The seven reserves account for 13.5% of Saudi Arabia’s total area. The Council will also contribute to meeting the Kingdom's afforestation targets, with more than 80 million trees and shrubs to be planted by 2030.
The Royal Reserves are unique and exceptional destinations for eco-tourism and are set to attract more than 2.3 million visitors annually, in addition to rehabilitating and protecting more than 15 heritage sites by 2030.
These environmental and tourism targets are also expected to create direct and indirect jobs for local communities in the Royal Reserves by 2030.
The Council of Royal Reserves was established under a royal order to outline the strategic directives for the Royal Reserves ecosystem in order to preserve its environmental and natural components, reintroduce wildlife, nurture its development, and stimulate eco-tourism, while also ensuring each Royal Reserve maintains its individual identity.
The Royal Reserves development authorities were established to create strategies and plans, and to manage all aspects related to the operation and implementation of its activities.
