Saudi Arabia’s population hits 32.2 mln in 2022

Fahad Aldossari, the President of the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT), announced the results of the Saudi Census 2022 during a press conference held today, May 31.

The Kingdom’s total population amounted to 32.2 million people; with 58.4% Saudis and 41.6% non-Saudis, or 18.8 million people and 13.4 million people, respectively.

This census is the most accurate and comprehensive, based on one million phone calls, and 900,000 additional field visits. Moreover, 200 indicators as well as five different data resources were applied to verify data and 5 data sources, Aldossari pointed out.

The population average age in Saudi Arabia is 29 years, while the average age of Saudis is 25 years old.

The percentage of Saudis under the age of 30 reached 63% of the total number of Saudis, the census results showed.

 The population in Riyadh, Makkah and Eastern Province represents 68% of the total population in Saudi Arabia.

According to the results, compared to 2010, the population grew at an average annual growth rate of 8.2% by 24 million people, while the number of Saudis, compared to 2010, increased at an average annual increase of 4.8% by 14 million people.

The number of non-Saudis grew from 9.9 million to 13.4 million, with a total increase of 3.5 million.

With regard to family composition, the census showed that the total number of Saudi families amounted to 4.2 million, with an average size equivalent to 4.8 members per family.

The number of dwellings in the Kingdom reached more than 8 million, of which 51% are apartments.

The population in Saudi Arabia grew from 23.98 million in 2010 to 32.18 million in 2022, while the Saudi population grew from 14.05 million to 18.79 million; and the non-Saudi population grew from 9.93 million to 13.38 million.

The number of households in Riyadh region reached 2.3 million families, of which 996,170 were Saudis, while non-Saudi reached 1.3 million.

The number of households in Makkah region reached 2.1 million families, 991,400 of which are Saudis, while non-Saudi stood at 1.1 million.
