ACWA Power will operate its first green hydrogen plant in 2026, CEO Paddy Padmanathan told Al Arabiya TV on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The plant's capacity will exceed the world's current total production of green hydrogen, the CEO said, adding that the plant will have a foothold in Southeast Asia and Europe due to the energy crisis.

"We will produce 650 tons per day of green hydrogen that will convert into green ammonia. We will also ship 1.15 million tons of liquid ammonia," Padmanathan said.

Nearly 100 million tons of gray hydrogen are used in the production of fertilizers and chemicals. “Almost 45 million tons of hydrogen is used in the production of fertilizers only. We are building a plant that will produce only 1.15 million tons to serve the fertilizers market. We need 45 plants of this type," Padmanathan said.
