Saudi Minister of Investment Khalid Al-Falih said that Apple Inc. will soon commence operations at the logistics zone of King Khalid Airport (KKIA) as part of the ministry’s plans to launch an economic zone at the airport within a few weeks.

An agreement was reached with the US-based company during the visit of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to California and his meeting with Apple’s CEO Tim Cook in 2018, Al-Falih told Asharq Business during the graduation of the first batch of Apple Developer Academy in Riyadh.

The strategic partnership with Apple covers the launch of a special logistics area at KKIA to serve for the trade of mobile phones and the related spare parts, and their distribution across Saudi Arabia and the region, Al-Falih added.

He added that the ministry’s plan to roll out economic zones reached advanced stages as final approvals will be obtained soon. Some zone will be announced soon in the east and west of the Kingdom.
