Saudi Arabia launches digital tourism strategy

Saudi Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb launched the Tourism Digital Strategy, as part of the ministry’s efforts and plans to develop the local tourism sector, at the global technological conference "LEAP".

 

On his Twitter account, the minister said the strategy is part of a comprehensive plan to develop the tourism sector through leveraging on smart technologies.

 

"We are an ambitious and creative society and will succeed in implementing the plan in three years," Al-Khateeb noted.

 

The digital strategy comprises nine programs and 31 initiatives that are under implementation for over three years. The programs and initiatives will help realize the objectives of Vision 2030 through receiving 100 million visitors annually, helping the sector contribute 10% of the gross domestic product (GDP), and providing one million new job opportunities.

 

The strategy will contribute to consolidating the Kingdom’s leading position in the digital tourism, as well as achieving leadership in building new digital business models on a global scale. In addition, it will improve the tourist and visitor experience exceptionally, and support the tourism sector's role in digital economy.

 

The strategy will also achieve smooth travel, ease of doing business, encourage sustainability, digital travel, informed decision-making, and creation of a professional digital workforce. It will also provide innovative solutions and attract new investors.
