Saudi Arabia’s mineral resources are estimated at around SAR 5 trillion and are located across more than 5,300 sites, according to a statement from the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources.
This includes the most abundant minerals such as gold, silver, copper, zinc, phosphate, bauxite, and others.
The Kingdom produces around 24.6 million tons per annum (tpa) of phosphate, which are processed to produce approximately 5.3 million tpa of phosphate fertilizers. Additionally, Saudi Arabia comes among the world’s biggest five producers of phosphate fertilizers and develops a number of other mineral industries.
Saudi Arabia produces nearly 9.4 million tpa of bauxite, processed to extract around one million tpa of aluminum. In addition, approximately 409,000 ounces of gold are produced from the Saudi mines in addition to 68,000 tpa of copper and zinc concentrates.
Saudi Arabia’s comprehensive mining strategy focuses on the optimum usage of minerals via the value chain development, which will significantly impact the manufacturing and intermediate industries. This will accordingly help achieve the industry sustainability.
