Saudi Arabian Oil Co. (Saudi Aramco) seeks to localize the hydrogen-powered vehicle business in the Kingdom and develop the related technologies through its advanced innovation center "LAB7", Al Arabiya website reported, citing Ahmad Al Sa'adi, Senior Vice President of Technical Services.

Al Sa'adi said Aramco keeps pace with the latest technologies in the field of energy, expecting an increase in the use of hydrogen in the global energy system.

The giant oil is also working to enhance the internal combustion (IC) engine technologies, thanks to its innovations in the field of fuels, to develop more efficient fuel systems and engines.

The current trend to develop innovative fuels and efficient IC engine technologies contributes to reducing emissions from the automotive sector in the future, the top official said.

He added that the company continues to implement a wide range of initiatives aimed at achieving a further decline in the rates of carbon intensity, as the natural gas program implemented by the company aims to increase the percentage of gas used to meet the Kingdom's energy needs.

Aramco cooperates with major companies to exchange best practices and provide joint solutions to combat the effects of climate change, Al Sa'adi concluded.

In December 2021, Aramco signed five agreements with leading French companies, including an agreement to explore a hydrogen-powered vehicle business with Gaussin, a pioneer in clean and intelligent transport solutions, according to data compiled by Argaam.
