Gulf markets decline in early session; DFM slumps 5.2%, TASI down 3.8%

Stock markets in the Gulf region closed in the red today, Nov. 28, with Dubai Financial Market (DFM) General Index leading the slump as it fell 5.2%. Saudi Arabia’s Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) followed with a drop of 4.4% or more than 500 points.

 

Oman's exchange is closed on Nov. 28-29 on occasion of the National Day.

 

The global markets witnessed severe declines on Friday, Nov. 26, after the World Health Organization warned against the new COVID-19 variant discovered in South Africa, as it contains a large number of mutations that threaten to resist vaccines.

 

Oil prices also plunged more than 11%. Brent crude fell 11.6% to $72.72 a barrel, while NYMEX crude contracts declined 13% to $68.15 a barrel.
