Unemployment rate among Saudis down to 11.3% in Q2 2021

The unemployment rate among Saudis fell to 11.3% in Q2 2021 from 11.7% in Q1 2021, according to data from the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT). 

 

By the end of Q2 2021, unemployment rate for Saudis was 4.2 points lower than Q2 2020 – below its level on the pandemic outbreak. Unemployment rate among Saudi males hit 6.1%, compared to 22.3% among females.  

 

Meanwhile, unemployment rate among total working age population (15 years and above) rose from 6.5% to 6.6% in the second quarter.

The public sector accounted for 26.6% of total labor force at the end of the second quarter of 2021, while the percentage of labor force in the private sector reached 53%. 

 

Saudis accounted for 54.8% in the public sector and 43.4% in the private sector, while non-Saudis accounted for 60.8% in the private sector and 35.4% in other sectors.

 

Other sectors include self-employed, family workers, non-profit organizations, domestic labor, regional and international organizations, agricultural sector workers.
