Electronic Payment Machine
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions retreated to SAR 10.2 billion in the week ended Sept. 4, from SAR 10.5 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 112.4 million transactions were processed in the week.
POS transactions represent what is spent by consumers using ATM cards and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

During the past week, education topped the declining sectors, with a fall of 18%, followed by clothing and footwear sector with 15%.
On the other hand, miscellaneous goods and services sector recorded an increase of 5% in POS during the same period.
Consumer spending focused on the food and beverages sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.54 billion, representing 15% of POS transactions, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.3 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 3.24 billion, representing 32% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.6 billion.
