The Economy and Energy Committee of the Shura Council called on the General Authority for Competition (GAC) to coordinate with the Ministry of Finance and relevant authorities to develop the necessary mechanisms for the government tenders and procurement law to ensure fair competition, Saudi Press Agency reported.

During the meeting held by the committee to discuss the annual reports of GAC, and the Small and Medium Enterprises Financing Guarantee Program, for the fiscal year 2021, it stressed the importance of intensifying GAC's efforts to raise the level of knowledge about competition and procurement, whether for workers in the public or private sectors. In addition, it highlighted the importance of studying the additional regulatory tools necessary to ensure fair competition between various companies and setting direct and indirect mechanisms for the targeted sectors.

The committee also discussed the possibility of developing effective mechanisms for handling complaints by the authority, as well as coordinating with the relevant authorities to expedite consideration and issuance of judgments within a period not exceeding six months, starting from receiving the complaint.
