Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority (TGA) discussed on June 22, the feasibility of transporting passengers via sea between cities and other islands on the Kingdom’s Eastern and Western coasts.
The feasibility study, conducted with the participation of 22 public and private entities, aimed to analyze the current market situation to determine the potential sea routes, spanning 3,400 kilometers (km). This will help identify five major regions to set up 14 sea routes serving the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea.
The study, based on 15 initiatives related to the transportation sector, expects more than 16.3 million passengers annually will benefit from the project, and will create more than 38,300 direct and indirect job opportunities. This will also add SAR 8.9 billion to the Kingdom’s gross domestic product (GDP).
