Saudi Water Partnership Co. (SWPC) signed today, June 22, an agreement for Jubail 3B Independent Water Producer (IWP) project in the Eastern Province.

The agreement was signed by the Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture and Chairman of SWPC Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al Fadley, the firm said in a statement.

According to company CEO Khalid bin Zwaid Al Qureshi, the project was offered to investors on BOO (Build, Own and Operate) basis, in which the winning consortium was chosen after a competition that took place between four consortiums, including six local companies and four international companies.

The desalination plant will be designed using reverse osmosis seawater desalination technology and will have a capacity of 570,000 cubic meters per day (m3/day).

The strategic project will also include solar energy units to reduce the electricity consumption from the grid, in addition to water tanks with a storage capacity of one operational day.

Commercial operation will start in the first quarter of 2024, Al Qureshi said, adding the project concession term is 25 years.

The project will contribute to achieving high levels of continuous production, lower levels of specific electric energy consumption and operating costs, the CEO noted.
