Public Transport Authority sets up committee to crack down on foreign trucks: Al-Rumaih

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) formed a committee comprising 11 representatives from different government authorities to clamp down on foreign truck business, Rumaih Al-Rumaih, chairman of PTA said, adding that 18 recommendations were made by the committee to end this phenomenon.

Meanwhile, all requirements will apply to transport companies, which will be required to pay fines, Al-Rumaih added.

The PTA coordinated with several government authorities, factories and merchants not to contract foreign transporters, as contracting national transporters will positively reflect on the Kingdom’s economy and boost local content.

The PTA aims to clamp down on commercial cover-up, launching e-platforms to facilitate transport firms’ business and enhance monitoring.

Al-Rumaih added that a single entity, which will report to the Ministry of Transport, will be set up for the logistics sector as part of the initiatives (the strategic transportation plan and logistics services).

The Kingdom will build several dry ports in the Eastern Province and develop Riyadh’s dry part. Moreover, a bridge will be built to link the Kingdom’s ports in the western coast to the eastern coast, he added.
