Al Yamamah Steel Industries Co.’s new wind power systems project will fulfill 40% of tower demand in wind projects announced by the Kingdom, CEO Yousef Ba-Zaid told Argaam in a telephone interview.

The projects announced by the state to produce clean energy from wind will generate nearly 1,600 megawcatt (MW) of power, and will need 100,000-120,000 tons of steel, based on the technology deployed.

“The selection of Yanbu as the location of Al Yamamah Wind Power Systems plant will enhance the company’s competitive ability and help it reduce the cost of transferring towers in special trucks,” Ba-Zaid added.

Al Yamamah Steel’s board of directors approved on Feb. 9, 2021, to start implementing Al Yamamah Wind Power Systems plant as of March 1, at the cost of SAR 293 million, Argaam reported.
