The annual throughput of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Port increased to 2.15 million TEUs by the end of 2020, an increase of 6.6% compared to 2019.

The number of containers heading to the local market and handled by the port jumped by 16% in 2020, Saudi Press Agency reported.

The port saw an increase of 12.4% increase in the bulk and general cargo, with cargo-handling weight hitting 3.33 million tons compared to 2.96 million tons in 2019, which in turn strengthened the Kingdom's logistical competitiveness and contributed to raising the non-oil exports and diversifying the sources of income in line with Vision 2030.

Moreover, the port continued its active role in revitalizing the logistics services sector and maritime trade as well as facilitating the flow of various goods to serve the vital economic sectors in the Kingdom, as imports of medicines and medical supplies witnessed a remarkable increase of 72% during the first eight months of 2020.

The port saw also an increase in the imports of building materials by 15%, which contributed to meeting the needs of the Saudi construction sector. The port completed the handling of huge equipment for the second phase of Petro Rabigh development project, with a total weight of 3,200 tons.

King Abdullah Port received three of the largest vessels in the world in one week, thanks to its superior infrastructure equipped with 18-meter berths, designed to receive the giant vessels.
