Prices of 150 Saudi commodities rise in December 2020

Prices of 12 goods and services in Saudi Arabia decreased year-on-year (YoY) in December 2020, while prices of 150 out of 166 commodities rose, official data issued by the Saudi General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) showed.

 

Starting from July 2020, Saudi Arabia began implementing a 15% value-added tax (VAT).

 

Out of the 91 food products, Indian cardamom local recorded the biggest rise by 51.81% YoY. It was followed by American cardamom with a 42.30% increase YoY.

 

On the other hand, Pakistani mango and Chinese garlic saw the steepest decline at 7.80% and 7.23% YoY, respectively.

 

Meanwhile, prices of all construction materials increased in December 2020 YoY.

 

Prices of all 11 fodder and livestock products increased in December on a YoY basis.

 

For clothes, prices of all 10 commodities saw an increase for the same month.

 

Three out of four personal services saw a YoY rise in December, while price of one decreased.

 

Prices of all four detergents increased when compared to the previous year.

 

Elsewhere, prices of all healthcare services were up in the same period.

 

Similarly, prices of services under the maintenance and repair of personal means of transportation grew in December YoY.

 

Prices of hotel services rose, while apartment went down on an annual basis in December.

 

Under tobacco, prices of Marlboro cigarettes grew by 10.30% per pack YoY.
