Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs (MOMRA) started imposing penalties on collective housing violations as of Friday, Jan. 1.

The committee responsible for regulating the housing of expat workers, which is affiliated to MOMRA, earlier stated that it is working on two parallel approaches to help the private sector check the quality of collective housing and adhere to the relevant standards.

The committee adopted the first approach which obligates the facility owners to disclose the locations of their labor accommodations through the collective housing platform. Meanwhile, the second approach aims to license the collective housing but after complying with the health, technical and safety requirements through the Balady platform.
