The Red Sea Development Co. (TRSDC) awarded a contract to Mott MacDonald to provide consultancy services and determine the ideal designs and specifications for the destination's environmentally friendly transport vehicles and fleet, according to a company statement.
The global engineering firm will provide a comprehensive analysis of the total land, sea, and air transportation needs for the development and operation across 28,000 square kilometers, starting from its opening in 2022 until the delivery of its final phase in 2030.
As part of its services, the company will provide a strategy for destination-wide clean mobility using electric and hydrogen vehicles, boats, and aircrafts.
In addition, Mott MacDonald will identify the most appropriate supporting infrastructure, such as electric and hydrogen vehicle charging stations, in line with TRSDC’s ambitions to feed the destination with 100% renewable energy.
The contract includes evaluating the sustainable transportation plan and a fleet of sustainable vehicles, such as e-bikes, golf buggies, cars, vans, trucks, buses, seaplanes, helicopters, passenger ferries, boats, maintenance vehicles, airport vehicles, and even off-road leisure pursuit vehicles that will serve the destination.
Mott MacDonald will also propose the best fleet propulsion systems from a group of available sustainable options, the statement highlighted.
