Saudi ports container handling rises 10% to 625,000 TEU in October

Saudi ports saw an increase of more than 10.4% year-on-year (YoY) in the number of containers handled in October 2020 to 625,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU).

 

The total cargo tonnage handled at Saudi ports in October 2020 reached more than 25 million tons, via 987 vessels, according to the monthly statistical bulletin of Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani).

 

The total foodstuff cargo increased 10.4% (2.5 million tons) in October. Meanwhile, vehicles cargo reached more than 63,000, while livestock cargo exceeded 174,000.

 

According to Mawani, the escalating growth was driven by strategic partnerships with major international shipping lines to boost the operational and logistical performance as well as improve the competitiveness of the services provided to beneficiaries, in addition to raising the capabilities of infrastructure of ports.

 

It added that this will help meet the requirements of national economic development and global supply chains.
