Prices of nine goods and services in Saudi Arabia decreased year-on-year (YoY) in September 2020, while prices of 153 out of 166 commodities rose, official data issued by the Saudi General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) showed.
Starting from July 2020, Saudi Arabia began implementing a 15% value-added tax (VAT).
Out of the 91 food products, sweetened local canned orange juice recorded the biggest rise by 67.31% YoY. It was followed by American cardamom with a 66.19% increase YoY.
On the other hand, Chinese garlic and local grapes saw the steepest decline at 8.72% and 6.22% YoY, respectively.
Meanwhile, prices of all construction materials increased for the month of September.
Prices of all 11 fodder and livestock products increased in September on a YoY basis.
For clothes, prices of all 10 commodities saw an increase for the same month.
Three out four personal services saw a YoY rise in September.
Prices of all four detergents increased when compared to the previous year.
Elsewhere, prices of all healthcare services were up in the same period.
Similarly, prices of both services under the maintenance and repair of personal means of transportation grew in September YoY.
Prices of both hotel and apartment services rose on an annual basis in September.
Under tobacco, prices of Marlboro cigarettes grew by 12.89% per pack YoY.
