Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef said some of the products manufactured in Saudi Arabia are of higher quality compared to those that are imported, Saudi Press Agency reported.
He added that locally manufactured goods are witnessing a strong demand within the country and abroad.
The Saudi industry has a strong foundation and has proved to be highly reliable in global markets, Alkhorayef said, while speaking at a meeting of the Saudi Society for Opinion Writers.
He noted that one of the ministry's main goals is to maintain the quality of domestic products and protect them from harmful practices such as dumping.
The minister also outlined the roadmap towards developing the industrial sector, breaking it up into three key objectives.
The first objective seeks to build and develop the existing capabilities of some of the sectors.
The second aims at localizing products through a strategic plan to convert the largest number of imported products to home-made ones, as well as making use of the Kingdom’s prime geographical location, integrated infrastructure, and strong purchasing power to attract quality investments.
The third objective aims to adopt advanced technologies under the Fourth Industrial Revolution and embrace industries that are globally in demand.
Alkhorayef reiterated that the ministry is working with its partners in the industrial sector to create jobs that fit Saudi nationals. He also cited the job multiplier, explaining that every direct job in the industrial sector contributes to creating five indirect jobs in other industries.
