The point-of-sale (POS) transactions increased by 14% to SAR 10.47 billion in the week ending July 4, 2020, from SAR 9.19 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 62.8 million transactions were processed in the week ending July 4.
It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia imposed 15% value-added tax (VAT) as of July 1, 2020.

The POS sales of major sectors increased during the week ending July 4, with the hotels and education sectors rising by 51% respectively, followed by the clothes and footwear sector with 34%.
Meanwhile, the construction materials sector decreased 13%, followed by the transport sector with 12.8%.
Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector in the week ending July 4, valued at nearly SAR 1.53 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 901.2 million and the miscellaneous goods and services with SAR 842.8 million.
