Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) signed on Monday an agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
The agreement was signed by KSRelief Assistant General Supervisor for Operations and Program, Ahmed bin Ali Al-Bayez, and WHO’s representative in the Kingdom Dr. Ibrahim Al-Ziq.
Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia announced a $10 million grant to WHO at the directives of King Salman in response to an urgent appeal calling on all countries to extend help and support in fighting the pandemic.
Al-Ziq expressed his gratitude to Saudi Arabia for extending generous support to this humanitarian cause.
“This shows the Kingdom’s concern for human health and safety,” he said.
He mentioned that WHO will use these funds to purchase protective equipment for health workers and laboratory equipment to boost research to find a vaccine for the coronavirus.
KSRelief Supervisor General Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah commented on the agreement that the support embodies the noble humanitarian role of Saudi Arabia and reflects its keenness to serve humanity in cooperation with the United Nations (UN) and its agencies.
