Saudi Arabia suspends schools, universities on Coronavirus concerns

Saudi Arabia decided to suspend schools and higher education institutions as of Monday, March 9, 2020, until further notice over the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

 

The decision came in accordance with the preventive and precautionary measures recommended by the competent health authorities in the Kingdom, as part of its efforts to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID19).

 

Saudi Education Minister Hamad Al Sheikh directed to follow virtual school and distance learning process during the suspension period.

 

“The situation will be evaluated on a daily and weekly bases, before resuming classes at schools, colleges and universities,” the minister said.

 

Authorities in Saudi Arabia also said that the suspension will include educational and Quranic activities at mosques.

 

Saudi Arabia has also closed the Riyadh boulevard and winter wonderland due to concerns about the new corona virus, according to state TV.
