Saudi Arabia’s open access agreement will help telecom operators make the best out of the fiber-optic infrastructure, increase broadband subscriptions, promote competition, improve the quality of services and boost market integration, Al Arabiya TV reported, citing Mohammed Al Tamimi, governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC).
The Saudi telecom regulator launched open access agreements between the Kingdom's six telecom operators, to provide fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband services through any subscriber-selected service provider, independent of infrastructure ownership.

The end-user will have more options and high-quality services at the most affordable prices,” Al Tamimi stressed.
“The adoption of an open access model will increase the use of fiber-optic infrastructure, through developing commercial agreements that facilitate subscribers’ shift to another provider and allow them to choose their broadband supplier independently from the infrastructure owner,” he further explained.
