Saudi Telecom Co. (STC) is the first telecom operator to launch commercial 5G services in the Kingdom, Kuwait and Bahrain, Al Arabiya TV reported, citing Nasser Al Nasser, Chief Executive Officer.
“STC has mega investments in the 5G services and networks upgrade,” Al Nasser indicated, adding that 5G services were launched via the broadband applications, and industrial applications will follow as the telco invests in several fields, including oil and gas.
“We have 10 towers and they are all supported by the internet of things (IoT),” Al Nasser stated, noting that the company’s infrastructure investments boosted the internet speed in the Kingdom over the last 3 years.
Al Nasser also stressed that STC has strong ties with three 5G operators; Nokia, Ericsson and Huawei Technologies.
In a separate statement today, Al Nasser said that STC seeks to develop the artificial intelligence applications in line with its digital transformation strategy.
