Regional e-commerce website Noon has signed an agreement with China’s Neolix to trial driverless delivery vehicles in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
The agreement was signed during the three-day state visit of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan to China.
Neolix will build driverless vehicles customized to the region’s weather conditions, the statement said.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund-backed noon will also focus on “last mile delivery” of the vehicles in select areas of Abu Dhabi and Dubai over the next few weeks.
The company will announce many such innovations over the next few months, Mohamed Alabbar, founder of noon.com, said in the statement.
