Mobile operators offer higher download speed in Q2 2019: CITC

Saudi mobile operators provided an average download speed of 35.8 Megabytes per second in Q2 2019, a rise of 11 percent quarter-on-quarter (QoQ), according to the Communications and Information Technology Commission’s (CITC) Meqyas quarterly report.

 

Meanwhile, the upload speed stood at 13.0 Megabytes per second, down 0.8 percent QoQ in the three-month period.

 

Saudi Telecom Co. (STC) delivered the highest average performance of 37.2 Megabytes per second, a 5.1 percent QoQ increase in Q2.

 

The performance of Etihad Etisalat Co.(Mobily) and Mobile Telecommunications Company Saudi Arabia (Zain Saudi) improved by 27 percent and 16.3 percent QoQ to an average speed of 35.3 and 32.9 Megabytes per second, respectively.

 

As for the quality of YouTube video streaming via mobile internet, streaming was in Full HD, with mixed performance among service providers. The report also included the performance of the online gaming latency. 

 

CICT launched in October 2017 Meqyas initiative to test the internet quality in the Kingdom.
