Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Adviser to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Governor of Makkah province, has inaugurated six water projects worth over SAR 3.1 billion in Makkah and Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddassah.
The mega projects include a water transfer system linking Shuaiba with Makkah and Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddassah at a total value of over SAR 875 million, Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, said in a statement.
He added that the projects include the second phase of Shuaiba’s desalination plant worth more than SAR 1.175 billion, along with other water networks, tanks, household connections, and sewage facilities.
Al-Fadhli also said that the projects will serve pilgrims and Umrah performers, and fall within Makkah’s plans to receive 15 million pilgrims and visitors by 2020, and 30 million by 2030.
The projects were implemented by Saline Water Conversion Corporation, National Water Company, and Saudi Water Partnership Company.
