National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) awarded on Thursday a contract to Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries to build five large crude carriers (VLCCs), the Saudi shipping company said in a statement.
The VLCCs are expected to operate at a capacity of 300,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) each, and are scheduled for delivery in 2017.
The agreement also includes the option for Hyundai Samho to build an additional five vessels.
Bahri’s chief executive said the deal is linked to the continuous renewal of its current fleet.
Financial impact is expected to be seen after the new vessels are delivered.
