Yanbu grain handling terminal inaugurated

Minister of Environment, Water & Agriculture and Chairman of the Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Co. (SALIC) Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli inaugurated today, Dec. 22, the Yanbu grain handling terminal, located in Yanbu Commercial Port, which is affiliated with the National Grain Company.

The terminal has a capacity of up to 156,000 tons. It also includes 12 silos with a total capacity of 96,000 tons and a 650-meter conveyor belt, according to a statement picked up by Argaam.

In addition, cargo unloading can be handled directly from ships at a capacity of 800 tons per hour, together with an annual handling capacity exceeding three million tons of grain.

Through the new Yanbu terminal, the National Grain Company aims to boost the local grain trade, handling and storage, as well as strengthening supply chains and price stability in the Kingdom. This is while providing logistical support to all importers from the public and private sectors. According to data available to Argaam, the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) had signed in August 2020 an agreement to establish an equally-owned joint venture (JV) with SALIC, or the National Grain Company, at an estimated cost of SAR 412.5 million.
