Boeing eyes supply of 150 737 Max jetliners to Riyadh Air: Report

Boeing Co. is working to land a deal and supply at least 150 of its 737 Max jetliners to Riyadh Air, Bloomberg reported, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.

The new carrier, owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), is looking to buy about 300 to 400 single-aisle jets.

Talks are complicated, with timing and structure still in flux, the sources said, adding that Airbus SE could also claim a portion of the order. However, Boeing is pressing its advantage since Airbus has few available delivery slots for its A321neo jets before 2029, the sources added.

The deal may be announced at the Paris Air Show in mid-June, though no decision has been yet taken, they noted.

Last March, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the launch of the new national air carrier by the Kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund, Argaam reported.

In the same month, Riyadh Air ordered up to 72 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner airplanes in a multi-billion-dollar deal.
