Saudi health minister says COVID-19 cases likely to increase again on lack of commitment

Saudi Health Minister, Tawfig Al-Rabiah, said that coronavirus cases could increase again in the next few weeks, unless all people show commitment to the applicable precautionary measures.

“We are in one boat, and the failure of some affects everyone, so we must work together,” Al-Rabiah said in a speech on Monday.

Several countries are witnessing a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, due to a lack of commitment to social distancing and other precautionary measures.

Saudi Arabia is reaping the fruit of people’s commitment, witnessing a steep decline in the daily number of new coronavirus cases in general and of critical cases in particular.

Research on the vaccine is underway in a number of countries and the Saudi health authorities are following the developments, Al-Rabiah pointed out, adding that the Kingdom will procure vaccine for the novel coronavirus once it is confirmed to be safe and effective.
