Saudi Arabia calls for emergency Arab summit after attacks on oil facilities

Saudi King Salman has called on the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and Arab League countries for an urgent summit in Makkah amidst tension with Iran and geopolitical instability, the Saudi Press Agency reported yesterday.

The meeting, to be held on May 30, will highlight “the grave consequences of such attacks on the regional and international peace as well as security, in addition to the supply routes and the stability of the world oil markets.”

The meeting agenda includes discussing “these aggressions and their consequences on the region”, the report added.

Two Saudi Aramco pumping stations linked to a pipeline transporting oil from fields in the eastern sector to the port of Yanbu on the western coast were targeted in a drone attack last Tuesday.

This incident occurred two days only after a sabotage attack against two Saudi oil tankers off the coast of Fujairah in the UAE, which caused significant damage to the vessels.
