Passengers travelling through Saudi airports edged up 8% in 2018

The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation’s (GACA) plans and strategies have paid off, as recent data shows that over 99 million passengers flew through Saudi airports in 2018, up 8 percent from a year earlier, Saudi transport minister Nabeel Al-Amudi said.

The Kingdom’s domestic and international airports saw more than 771,000 flights, up 4.1 percent year-on-year (YoY), he said in a keynote speech at the Global Aviation Summit held in Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector plays a key role in achieving Vision 2030, Al-Amudi said.

The logistics and national industry development program includes initiatives aiming to develop and expand the aviation sector in order to reach rank 25 in the World Bank’s logistics performance index, he added.

The Kingdom is following global aviation updates, as well as electronic security protocol, and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and drones, Al-Amudi said, adding that GACA has issued several regulations to maintain safety.
