Saudi Railway Co. to link Northern Rail, Waad Al-Shamal City

Saudi Railway Co. (SAR) plans to contribute in developing Waad Al-Shamal City by linking it to the Northern rail network with a 1,550-kilometer line, the longest in the Middle East, Transport Minister Nabil Al-Amoodi said.

The railway will be built to include trailers to transport metals, making the line the Kingdom’s strategic artery for transport and mining industry, he said, according to Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Meanwhile, SAR is working on the line that will carry molten sulphur from Aramco’s facilities to Ras Al-Khair, he said.

SAR trains help rationalize energy consumption and protect the environment. It saves 70 percent of the needed diesel, as the mining train takes the load of 70,000 trucks every month, he said on the sidelines of King Salman’s inauguration of Waad Al-Shamaal project.
