HyperloopTT appoints design lead for Abu Dhabi project

Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HyperloopTT) on Wednesday appointed UAE-based Dar Al-Handasah as design lead for the construction of the world’s first commercial Hyperloop system in Abu Dhabi.

Construction of the Hyperloop commercial track, HyperloopTT’s XO Square Innovation Center and Hyperloop Experience Center is expected to begin in Q3 2019, the US-based company said in a statement.

Dar Al-Handasah’s team includes Dar Group members such as Perkins+Will (US), TY Lin International (US), GPO Group (Spain) and cost management consultants Currie & Brown (UK).

Earlier this year, HyperloopTT signed a memorandum of understanding with Aldar Properties, Abu Dhabi listed property development, which, when executed, will allow for the creation of a new HyperloopTT centre.

The proposed site located within Aldar’s Seih Al Sderieh landbank is located close to the Dubai Expo 2020 site and Al Maktoum International Airport.

“With today’s announcement of the appointment of Dar Al-Handasah, Perkins and Wills, and Currie and Brown, we have achieved a significant milestone towards the construction of the world’s first commercial Hyperloop system in Alghadeer,” said HyperloopTT chief executive Dirk Ahlborn.
