U.S. energy companies added two oil rigs in the week ending Aug. 31, bringing the total count to 862, General Electric Co.’s Baker Hughes energy services firm said in its closely followed report on Friday.

 

The number of gas rigs also rose by 2 to 184 gas rigs for the week, compared to 183 gas rigs a year earlier.

 

This is the first rise in oil rigs in three weeks, while the rig count inched up this month as drilling steadied over the last three months.
