Saudi-Canada row will not affect global oil supplies: Al-Falih

Saudi Arabia's petroleum supplies to countries around the world will not be impacted by the ongoing diplomatic dispute between Canada and the Kingdom, Energy Minister Khalid Al-Falih said on Thursday.

"The petroleum policy of Saudi Arabia emphasizes that the Kingdom’s petroleum supplies to countries around the world are not to be impacted by political considerations," he said in a statement published by the Saudi Press Agency.

He reiterated that is a "firm and longstanding policy that is not influenced by political circumstances."

On Sunday, the Kingdom ordered the Canadian envoy to Riyadh to leave within 24 hours and recalled its ambassador to Ottawa, in addition to freezing all new trade and investment with Canada over its alleged interference in Saudi Arabia’s internal affairs.

Al-Falih stated that the current diplomatic crisis will not impact Saudi Aramco's relations with its customers in Canada.

"The Kingdom continues to invest in its production capacity, which is considered a key factor in protecting from market volatility that is damaging to the interests of producers and consumers alike and the global economy at large," he added.

On Wednesday, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir dismissed the possibility of a third party mediating to mend the rift between the Kingdom and Canada.

Canada needed to “fix its big mistake,” he said, revealing that the Kingdom was "considering taking further measures."
