Trump, Kim sign historic agreement at Singapore Summit

United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed an agreement, committing to the “complete denuclearization” of the Korean peninsula, after historic talks held in Singapore on Tuesday.

The document signed by the two leaders specifies four key agreements:

1) The United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) commit to establish new US-DPRK relations, in accordance with the desire of the people of the two counties for peace and prosperity.

2) The United States and the DPRK will join their efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.

3) Reaffirming the April 27, 2018, Panmunjom Declaration, the DPRK commits to work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

4) The United States and the DPRK commit to recovering POW/MIA remains, including the immediate repatriation of those already identified.

Details of the denuclearization process have not been revealed as yet, and it is also unclear if the US will ease its sanction against North Korea.

Before signing the document, Trump said: “We are signing a very important document, a pretty comprehensive document, and we have had a really great term together, a great relationship.”

North Korean leader Kim said: “Today we have had a historic meeting, we decided to leave the past behind. The world will see a major change.”

“We are going to take care of a very big, and very dangerous problem for the world,” Trump later added.

After making statements, the two shook hands and signed the documents.
