Saudi ministry bans 22 contractors due to project delays

Saudi Arabia’s transport ministry has banned 22 contractors from competing for future projects for failing to deliver on projects on time, Saad Alkhalbi, deputy minister said in according to local media.

The ministry said it would withdraw the projects from the contractors if they are not completed on time and do not meet the standards.

The ministry also plans to privatize some transport sector projects, including roads, railways, ports and aviation.
 

Earlier this week, the ministry said it has completed several projects worth more than SAR 4 billion across the kingdom.

The projects comprised 108 kilometers of highways, 907 kilometers of double-lane roads, 659 kilometers of single-lane roads, 809 kilometers of agricultural roads, 35 upper intersections and one tunnel so far this year, a statement said.

King Salman last week appointed Nabil bin Mohammad Ala'amoodi as transport minister, in place of Sulaiman Al-Hamdan, who will now head the civil services ministry.
