More air transport deals underway for Qatar, says QCAA chairman

Qatar plans to sign more air transport agreements (ATAs) this year, to increase air passenger traffic and extend its reach across a broader range of destinations, Abdullah bin Nasser Turki Al-Subaey, Chairman of the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) told Oxford Business Group (OBG).

The country has signed eight ATAs this year, which gave it access to several new markets, including key destinations across Latin America and the Balkans.

“Despite recent challenges, we have high expectations for the rest of 2017,” he told OBG’s team. “Looking further down the road, we expect to sign more ATAs to continue expanding our reach.”

Expansion project of Hamad International Airport to accommodate up to 53 million passengers per year will be launched soon. 

The plans, expected to launch soon, will enable the airport to accommodate up to 53 million passengers per year.

QCAA plans to step up its support for Qatar Airways, as it adds new routes, aiming to increase passenger numbers.
