Emirates Telecommunications Corp. (Etisalat) on Wednesday appointed Khalaf Al-Shamsi as its representative in Mobily’s board in place of Khalid Al Kaf, who was recently sacked by the company.

The appointment is effective immediately.

Al Shamsi was named Etisalat's chief digital services officer in 2012. He has been with Etisalat since 1993. He served as senior vice president of technology and network strategy for Etisalat Group, chief executive of marketing, and chief executive of business at the United Arab Emirates-based company.

 

Al-Shamsi is also a member of the board of directors at Etisalat Afghanistan. He earned a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from Kentucky University in the United States.

 

Mobily dismissed former chief executive Al-Kaf on Tuesday after an accounting probe into last year’s financial statements, according to data available on Argaam,.

 

Al-Kaf had been suspended since November pending an investigation into accounting practices at the company.
