The National Water Company (NWC) and Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) have signed a joint deal whereby the NWC will supply Aramco with processed water in quantities ranging from 11,000-20,000 cubic meters a day, Saudi Press Agency said.

Aramco will use the processed water in its various crude oil processing operations at Riyadh Refinery from the end of 2016 for a period of 25 years, the Agency said.

Commenting on the deal, CEO of NWC Dr. Luai bin Ahmed Al-Muslam said his company has signed a series of agreements for the sale of treated water to companies for periods extending over 20 years with contractual values exceeding SR4.9 billion.

Commenting on the initiative, director of refinery and natural gas liquids collection unit at Aramco Omar Bazahair said his company seeks to cooperate with national companies in the area of water rationalization, protection of the environment and the preservation of natural resources.

“This deal will lead to all-out integration, economically and environmentally, in water processing and its reuse between Aramco and the NWC.

It will ensure that Aramco will continue efforts to use treated water for industrial and agricultural purposes in a bid to minimize the use of ground water,” he said.
