Anti-dumping probe starts on Saudi super-absorbent polymer imports

The GCC Secretariat General announced that Bureau of the Technical Secretariat for Anti-Injurious Practices in International Trade decided to start an anti-dumping investigation on the Saudi imports of super-absorbent polymers.

The probe, which follows a submission by Saudi Acrylic Polymer Co. (SAPCO), will cover the super-absorbent polymers originating from China, Japan, Belgium, Singapore, Korea and France, in line with the provisions of Articles 2 and 6 of the GCC Common Law on Antidumping, Countervailing Measures and Safeguard Measures and Its Rules of Implementation.

SAPCO, which is 39.22% owned by National Industrialization Co. (Tasnee), was established in July 2012. It owns a super-absorbent polymer plant, which was completed in January 2014, with a production capacity of 80,000 tons per annum (tpa), data compiled by Argaam showed.

Rehan Mubarak, Director-General of the GCC Bureau of the Technical Secretariat, indicated that the bureau investigated the claim and concluded that the super-absorbent polymers are imported to Saudi Arabia at lower prices that caused material harm to the similar products of GCC origin.
